When friends Tudor and Flynn first stepped into Herons Hideout in November 2023, none of us knew that their stay would spark the beginning of something really special; not only for them as musicians, but for us as hosts.
Back then, they were simply two guests arriving for a peaceful few days by the water. They’d booked through Airbnb to get some distance from everyday life and find space to think, write and produce. Travelling by public transport meant they could only bring digital equipment and had to leave their guitars behind. But all they wanted was a quiet corner of the Cotswolds to reset.
What we didn’t know at the time was that this trip would mark the start of their collaboration as BOY LOCO.
A Connection That Started With a Single Guitar
Our directors, Neil and Matt, were the first to meet them. As Neil recalls:
“Tudor & Flynn are two normal lads that oozed talent but were grounded and thoroughly engaging. They invited me in during their stay to let me watch them put their music together. I was completely unaware of their success as solo artists, and this was the first time they got together to begin their collaboration.”
When they mentioned they hadn’t been able to bring a guitar, Neil did what he always does…he tried to make their stay easier.
He offered them his own.
They tuned it, played it and (before they left) signed it.
As Neil puts it:
“I asked them to sign it before leaving, probably the first signature of BOY LOCO.”
There was no big performance or ego. Just two talented musicians discovering a creative rhythm together.
A Return Visit and a Growing Connection
When BOY LOCO returned in December 2024, it felt less like welcoming guests and more like seeing familiar faces. This time, they booked directly after meeting Neil and Matt during their first stay. A small interaction that clearly stuck with them.
Their second visit had a different energy. They knew the lodge, they knew the lake and they knew the kind of inspiration they’d find here. Herons Hideout had become a place they could settle into quickly, not as a novelty, but as somewhere that fit the way they like to work.
It was clear why they chose to return.
The Surprise We Didn’t Expect
Earlier this year, BOY LOCO released their new EP. What we didn’t know, was that they had named it:
“Herons Hideout.”
It was a moment of genuine pride (and surprise)! It was a reminder of how meaningful these stays had been for them, and how they connected with both the lodge and its surroundings.
As Neil said:
“For them to name their EP after Herons Hideout is wonderful; to know how important this moment was to them, the connection they made with the lodge and their stay on the lakes. I truly wish them all the success.”
Why This Story Matters to Us
Knowing that Herons Hideout supported the early stages of their collaboration wasn’t something we ever expected, but it has been a reminder that what we do at Stay on the Lakes is about more than managing bookings or maintaining properties. It’s about the experiences people take away.
The lakes offer the kind of space that lets people step back and think differently.
For BOY LOCO, that energy became the beginning of their work as a duo.
A Thank You
We’re so grateful to Tudor and Flynn for choosing Herons Hideout as their creative space, and for allowing the lodge to become a part of their musical story!
We’ll always be cheering them on.
